Dealing with Phobias

A phobia is an overwhelming, irrational fear of something (such as an animal, situation or a place.) The most common phobias are fear of heights, snakes and needles. But, we can develop a phobia of just about anything like a color or a food.

There are two parts to a phobia: an overwhelming fear or panic when faced with the phobic object or situation AND avoidance of situations where they may face that fear. Luckily, phobias respond quite well to psychotherapy. Cognitive behavior therapy has been proven to be very effective in helping clients overcome phobias. Should you live in the north Orlando area and suffer with a phobia, call Dana Nolan, Licensed Mental Health Counselor, at Healthy Living Counseling to make an appointment today.
