Finding the right counselor for YOU
There are variety of counseling styles and therapeutic paradigms. It is important to find a counselor with whom you feel comfortable sharing your thoughts and feelings AND who has the necessary expertise to help you reach your goals. For that reason, we offer a free brief phone consultation to ensure that we are the right fit for you.
Therapeutic relationships are built on trust, honesty and mutual respect between the therapist and the client. In our practice, you will find a warm and accepting environment to discuss and explore life’s challenges and work towards your goals. From the first session, your counselor will work with you to determine your specific treatment goals and outline the steps to get there.
How counseling works best
At each counseling session, you and your counselor will work together to discover what is keeping you stuck in unhappiness and find ways to help you move towards feeling better. Most clients report feeling better immediately after a counseling session. Homework is routinely assigned to help clients practice new thoughts and skills in the real world setting and are really how to get that “good feeling” to follow you home from your counseling session.
In general, we specialize in brief therapy and utilize an eclectic mix of therapeutic models and techniques including cognitive therapy, existential, behavior therapy, and EMDR .
Our practice specialties
We have particular expertise in working with clients who are dealing with a major medical crisis or disability. Cardiac events, cancer diagnoses and other serious or debilitating health problems are usually accompanied by emotional distress. Depression, anxiety, stress reduction, sleep problems and relationship changes are quite common during serious and/or chronic illnesses. However, you need not suffer emotionally as you cope with your illness. We have years of expertise helping clients cope with their chronic and serious illnesses.
Our counselors are not experts in all types of therapy with all types of clients. Below is a general list of our areas of expertise. Please feel free to call us to determine if we are the right fit for you.
